Despite its humble beginnings, Feebas holds the potential to evolve into one of the most elegant and powerful Water-type Pokémon: Milotic.

How Does Feebas Evolve? The Beauty Stat Mechanic

The evolution method for Feebas is unique and has remained consistent across most mainline Pokémon games, with a notable exception in newer titles. The primary method relies on increasing Feebas's "Beauty" condition. In Generation III (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald) and Generation IV (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum), this was a hidden stat that could only be influenced through specific items.

Boosting Feebas's Beauty in Generations III and IV

In these generations, Feebas evolves when its Beauty condition reaches a certain threshold and it is then leveled up. To raise the Beauty stat, players had to feed Feebas "Poké Blocks" (in Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald) or "Poffins" (in Diamond, Pearl, Platinum). These are special treats made from berries in the Berry Blender. The type and rarity of the berry used directly impacted the stats the Poké Block or Poffin would boost.

To maximize Feebas's Beauty, players needed to use berries that yield high "Spicy" flavored Poké Blocks or Poffins, as Beauty is associated with this flavor profile. Some of the best berries for this purpose included:

The Role of Dry Poffins/Poké Blocks

Some berries, when blended, produce Poké Blocks or Poffins that have a "Dry" flavor. These can be useful for lowering other stats if you accidentally boost them too high while trying to increase Beauty. For instance, if you're in Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum and want to raise Beauty, using a Lum Berry to make a Poffin might be a good choice, as it has a "Spicy" flavor. However, if you've already raised Feebas's other stats, you might need to use a "Dry" berry like a Sitrus Berry or Figy Berry to balance things out.

Evolution in Later Generations (Generation V onwards)

Starting with Pokémon Black and White (Generation V), the evolution method for Feebas was simplified. While feeding it items to boost stats still works to some extent, the primary and much easier method became using a specific item: the "Prism Scale." When Feebas holds a Prism Scale and is traded, it will evolve into Milotic, regardless of its Beauty stat. This makes obtaining Milotic significantly easier in games like Black, White, X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon, Sword, Shield, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Scarlet, Violet.

Feebas Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduced another unique twist. In this game, Feebas evolves into Milotic when traded while holding a Prism Scale, similar to the method introduced in Generation V. However, the game also offers a way to evolve Feebas without trading. If Feebas reaches a high enough level of Friendship (affection) with the player and is then leveled up, it will evolve into Milotic. This is a departure from the Beauty stat requirement and offers a different approach for players who might not have access to trading or a Prism Scale.

Where to Find Feebas and Prism Scales

Feebas is notoriously difficult to find. In most games, it appears in limited spots, often requiring players to fish in specific water tiles. For example, in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, it's found fishing in Mt. Coronet on Routes 205 and 212, but only on four specific fishing spots that change daily. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it's found fishing in various underwater routes, but again, in very specific, random spots.

Prism Scales are also often rare items. They can sometimes be found as held items on wild Milotic, as rewards for certain quests, or purchased from specific shops or vendors in the game. Their availability varies greatly depending on the specific Pokémon title.
